What Are You a Yes For Follow Up
Last time we talked about What Are You a YES For? This week, let’s keep the reading short, and take 10 minutes each day to reflect on one of the topics below…
Physical Wellbeing - When thinking about your physical being, how do you want to feel? What is something you do that interferes with that feeling? What is one tiny step you could take to move you toward that feeling more often? How would others in your life benefit from you taking those steps to better care for yourself?
Mental/Spiritual/Intellectual Well Being - Energetically, how do you want to feel moving through each day? My kickboxing instructor always says, “Get your head right.” I also remember my long time colleague Barb Jones quoting William Glasser and talking about how our thoughts create our emotions, our reactions and results, that cycle back to our thoughts again. What do you do to cleanse your thoughts and make sure that you are starting and moving through your day with thoughts that inspire you, energize you, and keep your heart open? I have a daily morning meditation practice and a teacher I listen to each morning. A former colleague reads a Bible passage and reflects on it. I have another friend who writes the answer to 4 questions in their journal every morning. How are you getting your head right?
Who are you surrounding yourself with, what are you talking about? Do you leave conversations feeling uplifted and good, or do the conversations spiral you down the drain? What are you watching, listening to and reading? How do those sources leave you feeling? What is something you could add or subtract to support the kinds of thought you want to house?
Fulfillment - How do you want to spend your days? What impact do you want to have? Do you want to inspire your students, be present and patient with your partner, invent something that changes people’s lives for the better? You don’t have to have a profession or even a paid position to make a difference. I have a dear friend who is a stay at home mom. She is completely present for anyone and everyone. She is the person who hears you, validates you, and makes things seem more doable. Whatever it is that you want to be or feel, what are you doing to include more of that each day? When you are in control of your thoughts, and therefore your emotions, you won’t let things disrupt your peace, or your focus. Stay focused on the impact you want to have and what you can control. What mark do you want to leave on this world each day?
One last thought. When you start your day and center it around these higher aspirations, then the minutiae of the day does not have the same impact on you. One of my long time yoga teachers always said, take up the higher and the lesser will fall away. You won’t have time to crab or complain, because you will be focused on what you can control, how good you feel, and the impact that you are having.
This week, I have an ask. If you enjoy this blog, or know someone who might benefit from reading it, please share this with them.
Be well,
