Can YOU have a minute of your time?
Alright Friends, let’s talk about movement.
I can’t tell you how many conversations I have had with people in the halls of CHS that mention they NEED to work out, they SHOULD work out, they HAVE to work out… How about we GET to workout out! Even better, I can’t wait to move my body, or moving my body makes me feel good? Many of us keep moving our bodies in the low priority category, or we plan to do it after X, Y, and Z get done, only to find out that we are too tired, or 3 new tasks pop up and take priority.
For the next two weeks, I want to challenge you to do something. It is easy, I promise. Or is it? I challenge you to add 1 minute of movement to your day. The rules are simple. 1. It must be more than walking. 2. You must track it with a timer. 3. If you happen to have a good movement routine, this is a minute that you ADD to your existing routine. THIS IS NON NEGOTIABLE.
Do something new, fun, challenging. Do something good for you, even if you don’t want to do it. Wall squats, pushups (wall pushups) jacks, squats, lunges… Anything that does not necessitate equipment or going anywhere. Maybe even something on your planning or break! Powerful moves to help me feel strong, especially on days I feel tired or run down.
Don’t kid yourself. This is about more than just movement. This is an opportunity to make yourself a PRIORITY. Keep your PROMISE TO YOURSELF. Many of us would stop and help a student, eachother, or a family member, but we become low priorities for ourselves. Keeping a promise to yourself develops TRUST and trust is how we build CONFIDENCE, lessen self doubt, anxiety and fear.
What will one minute do, you ask? One minute of exercise will boost your endorphins, which relieve stress, decrease pain and increase your sense of wellbeing. One minute will also increase your Dopamine (mood enhancing hormones that help you feel pleasure, satisfaction and motivation). Who doesn't need more of that?!!! Finally, adding ONE MINUTE of exercise elevates your Serotonin controlling your mood helping to regulate awake and sleep states.
One minute can make a lot of difference, don’t you think YOU ARE WORTH IT? Plus, keeping a promise to yourself, and especially if you choose to share with an accountability partner will heighten your sense of accomplishment, create feelings of success. Imagine how much better you will feel. Then, imagine how that will impact everyone around you?!!! Can YOU commit?
